Millions of shoppers follow the discount periods of many brands and sites. There were quite a few discount periods in November. We had the last Black Friday sale period. There is another discount campaign as unknown as Black Friday. The campaign called Cyber Monday is not very well known in our country at the moment. That's why citizens are wondering and researching the contents of the Cyber Monday discount. In this context, what is Cyber Monday and how did it come about? When is Cyber Monday 2022?

WHAT IS CYBER MONDAY?

It is an e-commerce term that refers to the first Monday after Black Friday. The term was first used on 28 November 2005. It got its name from a press release shared by the National Retail Federation, the world's largest retailers association. In the press release shared by the Federation, the expression "The biggest online shopping day of the year: "Cyber Monday" is used.

It is unknown why the National Retail Federation made this definition. But allegedly, a study conducted in 2004 found that the biggest online shopping day of the year is the first Monday after Thanksgiving.

HOW DID CYBER MONDAY APPEAR?

There was also a reason why millions of US citizens were shopping like crazy on the Monday after Thanksgiving. People preferred to buy the products they saw in the weekend stores and shopping malls online because it was cheaper. But there was a problem. In 2005, technology was not so advanced. Even a certain speed of internet was hard to find, let alone thinking of smartphones and fast computers. When the situation was like this, many American citizens were postponing their shopping to Mondays instead of dealing with the slowness to be experienced. The reason for this was that many people had faster computers and quality internet at work. As a result, online sales were booming on the first Monday after Thanksgiving.

This year, Cyber Monday coincides with Monday, November 29. Many e-commerce sites offer discounts of up to 80% on Cyber Monday, which has recently become an extension of Black Friday discounts.
